Governor inaugurates Himachal Olympic Games at Hamirpur

Dharamshala, June 22, 2017: Governor of HP , Acharya Devvrat today inaugurated the Himachal Olympic Games at Hamirpur after Olympic Torch was received at the town. Around 1100 sports persons from 11 districts of Himachal Pradesh would participate in these games.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Devvrat expressed happiness that sports activities were being promoted at large scale in the world and the players were getting more honour. Himachal Pradesh should also not lag behind in sports activities and budding players from this hilly State should be encouraged to participate in national and international sports events.
He said, “ the Himachal Olympic games would provide a suitable platform to the rural youth to exhibit their talent. The youth of the State is hardworking and if given better facilities and opportunities it would surely excel in sports and bring laurels to the State and the Nation.”
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the Himachal Olympic Association for organising this event and expressed hope that it would bring fruitful results.
The President of the Association Shri Anurag Thakur welcomed the Governor and briefed about the future activities. He assured that facilities would be made available for the players of the State and international level infrastructure would be developed to facilitate them.
Earlier in the day ,led by BJP MP from Hamirpur, Sh. Anurag Thakur, president of Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association (HPOA), Global Wrestling Icon The Great Khali and India’s Pride Olympian Vijay Kumar, a torch run , first of its kind in the state , has reached Hamirpur after a statewide run . The torch run for the games began from Shimla on 17th June and reached Hamirpur today. In Hamirpur. The torch run saw 10,000 youth joining them as it traversed the city spreading the inspiring slogan “Khelega Yuva, Jeetega Himachal”.
Expressing his sentiments on the inauguration day of the Himachal Pradesh State Olympic Games, Sh. Anurag Thakur, President, HPOA said, “We have launched the HP Olympic games to herald in a sporting culture at state level which is unparalleled. I am passionate about sports and I want the next Olympian to be from Himachal. The sole objective of these games is to make the state’s youth aware of the endless possibilities that sports offer and inspire them to take to sports in a big way. These games will be the wind beneath the wings of the youth as they aim to fly high in the field of sports. Through the slogan of “Khelega Yuva, Jeetega Himachal”, we want to inspire youth of the state to be successful in life and bring laurels to the country and the state of Himachal Pradesh.”
