ENACTUS TEAM OF PANJAB UNIVERSITY ACHIEVES ANOTHER MILESTONE

Chandigarh June 19, 2017: Enactus SSBUICET team comprising of 75 dedicated members of Panjab University was selected as one of the top 4 finalists and awarded with a trophy .PU marked its place in the top 24 nationwide. Out of these 24, top 4 finalists were selected on the basis of an extensive evaluation of the team’s projects and a 17-minute presentation followed by question answers. Enactus team also won the 2nd runners up prize of Rs.75000 for Mahindra Rise Grant. The team’s faculty advisor, Prof. Seema Kapoor won the Best Faculty Advisor award for the professional and personal development
of Enactus students for the fourth consecutive year.
Enactus India National Competition is one of the most anticipated events of the year. This nerve-racking competition was held in, Mumbai. As conveyed by president of the team, Sukhwinder Singh, about 160 teams had applied for the initial online
screening round this year, out of which top 24 were shortlisted and invited to Mumbai for finals. Enactus India is one of the strongest competitors in the world.
It is a group of about 160 colleges nationwide striving hard to make our world a better place to live in.
Enactus is a worldwide community of students, academic and business leaders who work together to empower the ones at the bottom of the pyramid and tackle global issues with an innovative approach. It has marked its presence in 36 countries in the world and is growing to include even more under its umbrella. The team has been working for the welfare and growth of communities since its inception in 2011, by averred Prof. Kapoor. The team has successfully launched 12 projects until now covering areas of women empowerment, skill development, agriculture, water and sanitation, etc. and have impacted more than thirty thousand lives directly through their projects and have created numerous entrepreneurs.
This year, the team came up with two new projects- SAMBHAV and UNNATI. Project “Sambhav”aims to eliminate beggary which is one of the greatest concerns in our nation by providing respectable job prospects to adult beggars, inclining child
beggars towards education and by empowering rural house helps through creative skills. On the other hand, project “Unnati” aims to empower educated unemployed youth and rural women by imparting vocational training in mobile handset repair,
field technician computing and sewing to create employment and business opportunities for them. Enactus SSBUICET has created 12 businesses this year and aims to reach greater heights.
The team is strongly supported and motivated by Prof Arun K Grover, Vice Chancellor, DSW, Dean Research Cell and RPC of Panjab University.
