DHARNA LIFTED AFTER ASSURANCE AND ARREST OF CONGRESS WORKERS

Ferozepur, December 8, 2017: The indefinite dharna was finally lifted today after the demands of the protesting Akalis were accepted. As per information available, Ramvir, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur and Rajinder Singh, D.I.G, Ferozepur met Sukhbir Singh Badal and tried to resolve the issue.

It is pertinent to mention here that SAD leaders including Joginder Singh Jindu, Avtar Singh Minna, Vardev Singh Noni besides 90 unidentified persons were booked under Sections 307, 506, 120-B, 148, 149 of the IPC and Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act at Mallanwala police station on December 7 following which the situation was intensified. As per information available, Section 307 of the IPC will be removed from this case.

The police also arrested the congress workers identified as Angrej Singh, Ajay Sethi, Babbal Sharma, Satpal Chawla, Heera Kakkar who were booked by the police evening. These congress workers were booked under Sections 341, 506, 148, 148 at Mallanwala police station.

Earlier, The State Election Commission (SEC) had also ordered the transfer of the DSP, Zira and SHO of the Mallanwala police station. The transfer orders had come in the wake of the demand of immediate action against both officers.

Earlier, the dharna continued throughout the chilling night. In the morning thousands of other workers from the nearby areas had joined the dharna. Langar and were was arranged by the party workers. Sukhbir, Majithia and other senior Akali leaders were even seen taking morning breakfast in form of “Ahcaar and Paranthaa”.

Meanwhile, the connection between Majha and Malwa has been completely broke up and thousands of commuters had to bear the brunt due to this dharna. Several commuters including women and children took shelter in Gurdwara.
