CM announces degree college at Kaza

Shimla, July 8, 2017: Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh during last day of his tour to tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti today announced a government degree college to be opened at Kaza. Since the youth from Kaza have to go to either Reckong-Peo or Rampur to pursue higher studies, it becomes difficult for them especially for girls of the valley to go far from home. He said that a magnificent college building would be constructed at Kaza.

The Chief Minister was addressing a public meeting at Kaza.

He dedicated various development projects to the people and announced Community Centre to be opened at Kibber, and bailey bridge at Losar and Channelisation of Shweta Nallah at Losar. He also announced installation of 22 hand pumps in the valley and construction of separate godown of LPG in Pin Valley.

Shri Virbhadra Singh said that he was well aware of the water scarcity problem in the area. A Desert Development Programme was launched in the valley in 1977-78 to take up forestation drive and increase the green cover. He said that the forest department would be now given the task of planting more and more trees. He said that the government would keep a separate budgetary provision for the same. A ‘Green Spiti’ mission would be started, he said, adding that he wants to see Spiti adorned in Green cover in times to come.

Issuing directions he said that within one year all the electricity towers should be installed so that the power can be transmitted from Pooh.

He also reiterated for distribution of ‘Nautod’, to the landless within two months and said that all the formalities sould be completed. He directed the officers concerned to work overtime for completing necessary paper work.

The Chief Minister said that 750 labourers in the Spiti valley had been employed full time for 12 months.

He laid foundation stones of Rs 2.19 crore indoor stadium at Kaza, office-cum-residence of Assistant Director, Animal Husbandry, to cost rupees two crore.

He also laid foundation stone of upgradation lift drinking water supply scheme to cost Rs.1.83 crore. This would benefit a population of around five thousand of Kaza Khas and Kaza Soma. He announced augmentation of lift water supply scheme, Tabo in Spiti to cost Rs. 1.18 crore which will population of around 1000.

MLA Shri Ravi Thakur earlier urged for installing hand pumps in the valley and opening a degree college. He also listed other developments of the area.

Block Congress President Shri Ram Kumar thanked the Chief Minister for laying foundation stones of various development projects and raised various demands of the area.

Chairman Wool Federation Shri Raghuvir Singh, Chief Secretary Shri VC Pharka, Member, Tribal Advisory Committee Ms Angmo, ADM Kaza, Dr. Vikram Singh Negi were also present on the occasion amongst others.
