Jalandhar, October 13, 2017: Chess is not a game only; it must continue as lifetime event which is the introspective version of the dictum Slow and Study wins the Race. These words are of IPS Arpit Shukla, IGP (Zonal), who was addressing I K Gujral Punjab Technical University’s North Zone inter-varsity chess championship which started today at St. Soldier Group of Institutions. He said that we at global level achieved more and more in IT sector but we are losing our strength of sports day by day. Now is the time to take serious note over it and you all participants have the duty to motivate your classmates to join at least one game for sure, whether it is indoor or outdoor.

On this occasion Dr Sukhbir Singh Ahluwalia, Director Students Affairs IKG PTU said that to create a good and healthy atmosphere in the country, games are playing a major role. All games put a team work spirit in our youth which is very much required at this time where the nuclear families fail to give stress relief to our next generations. He said that it is a proud moment for IKGPTU that we are developing the minds of our students through sports activities too.

By motivating students through his words Mr. Anil Chopra, Chairman of St. Soldier group said that it is a proud moment for them too that University selected this institution for North Varsity level Championship. Group Co-Chairperson Madam Sangeeta Chopra & MD Manhar Arora also thanked the University by giving this opportunity.

It is important to mention here that Association of India Universities (AIU) has allotted North Zone Inter-Varsity Chess (Men & Women) Championship 2017-18 to I K Gujral Punjab Technical University. It will continue till October 17, 2017. More than 40 different Universities of North India are participating in this Championship. IKG PTU selected its affiliated institution St. Soldier to host this event.
