CELEBRATION OF FIELD DAY ON MAIZE HYBRID PMH-1 BY KVK ROPAR

Ludhiana, October 6, 2017: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized Field day on maize hybrid PMH-1 at village Surewal. About 50 farmers participated in the field day and were encouraged to cultivate maize hybrid PMH-1.Dr Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (T) addressed the farmers regarding maize hybrid PMH1 recommended by PAU along with their characteristic features.

He also discussed the management practices for profitable cultivation of maize crop and urged the farmers to not to burn crop residue in the field during coming season. Dr Sanjeev Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Hort), explained the role of vegetable cultivation in crop diversification. Dr Ashok Kumar, Assistant Professor (PP), informed about the diseases of maize and their control measures. He stressed upon seed treatment with recommended fungicides before sowing, he also imparted knowledge about various insect pests of maize and their control measures. Dr Opinder Singh Assistant Professor (Soil Sc), discussed the use of biofertilizers as seed treatment and use of leaf color chart (LCC) in maize for the judicious use of nitrogenous fertilizers. Mr. Rohit Sharma farmer, said that stem of this variety is solid and remains green at maturity.

S. Satnam Singh, farmer observed that the size of cob is bigger and number of grains more than other varieties. Farmers showed a keen interest in the discussion and appreciated the results of maize hybrid PMH-1.
