Chandigarh, June 15, 2017: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today expressed profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of eminent Punjabi playwright and litterateur Prof.Ajmer Aulakh, who passed away this morning after prolonged illness.
In a condolence message, Chief Minister said that the noted Punjabi theatre personality dedicated his entire life to the promotion of theatre and to his rare literary works, which highlighted the plight of oppressed sections of the society, thus portraying the hardships faced by poor farmers, hapless labourers and the downtrodden.
Captain Amarinder said his work was not mere literary creations but a source of inspiration, with a message for the underprivileged sections to lead their lives with dignity. Captain Amarinder said a void had been created in the literary world with the death of the world renowned Punjabi playwright, which could never be filled.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family, Chief Minister prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear this irreparable loss.
At the onset of the day’s session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Speaker read the obituary reference of Prof. Aulakh and the entire House observed two-minute silence in the memory of departed soul as a mark of respect.
Prof. Aulakh was honoured with the awards of Sahit Academy by Government of India and 'Shiromani Natakkar Award' by the Punjab Government for his outstanding contribution in the field of Punjabi literature and theatre.
