Ludhiana, May 22, 2017: A five-day basic beekeeping training course for scheduled castes began at the village Maherna, district Ludhiana today. The course has been organized by the Department of Entomology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), under the aegis of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna.
Dr R.S. Gill, Head, Department of Entomology, said the training is meant for providing employment alternatives to the unprivileged strata of the society to make them earn their livelihood and to provide them social and economic security in an ecologically acceptable manner.
Dr Pardeep Kumar Chhuneja, Course Director, said the training course will cover various aspects of commercial apiculture viz. acquaintance with hive and apicultural appliances, seasonal management of Apismellifera, management of queenless and laying worker colonies, bee enemies and diseases and their management. Besides, experts will dwell on artificial diets and dearth period feeding, colony division, migration of honey bee colonies and production of various bee products, he added.
Dr Jaspal Singh, Technical Coordinator of the course, said during last one month, two trainings including one for scientists of Central Agricultural University, Imphal and another for Personnels from Gujarat have been conducted at recently established Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre (IBDC) at PAU, Ludhiana.
