ATDC Indore Organised Seminar on 'Careers in Fashion & Apparel Sector'

ATDC Indore organising seminar on 'Careers in Fashion & Apparel Sector'.

With the aim of upgrading knowledge base and creating awareness about the careers in garment sector among youth, along with ATDC faculty resources, Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), India’s largest vocational training provider for the apparel sector, organized a Seminar on ‘Careers in Fashion & Apparel Sector’. The entry was free for all the students who participated in the event. The seminar was conducted on June 24, 2017, Saturday at the ATDC campus in Pardeshipura, Indore. The key note speaker for the seminar was Dr.Jayantilal Bhandari, a renowned Career Counselor and an economist/ columnist&Limca Book Awardee.Other eminent speakers for the day included Dr Dinesh Chandra Rathi - the Deputy Director of Swami Vivekanand Career Guidance Scheme, Govt of Madhya Pradesh; Mr. Vicky Kalani, President, Ready-made Garment Complex Association and Proprietor, Kalani Traders; and Mr. Pukhraj Kothari, GM (Retd.), DIC, Ratlam.

The purpose for the seminar was to create and spread awareness about the careers in fashion and apparel sector for the wave of aspiring students looking forward to step foot in the garment industry. Moreover, the seminar aimed to inform the youth about the initiatives of state government for Skill Development and respective free of cost courses run by ATDC for the underprivileged youth of the society. Nearly 200 students attended the seminar.

Dr. Bhandari said, “Fashion has been the trend in every age, but in today’s consumer-centric world, its roots have spread to the deepest recesses of the industry. The fashion industry is being counted among the top industries of the country and every day numerous new multi-millionaire companies are securing their foothold in the field. With the industry expanding each step of the way, so will the employment opportunities and simultaneously, the demand for capable hands to handle it. This is where the youth comes in with their skilled force, to fill in the gap created by the opportunities and the demand, to progress with the fashion industry to another level.”

Professor Dr. Jayantilal Bhandari’s name has been registered in ‘Limca Book of World Record" for writing the maximum number of articles, nearly 1600, on economy/career related topic in news daily’. He has worked with an unchallenged dedication to empower the youth in Madhya Pradesh, through career education. His efforts become remarkable in view of the fact that the young populace, which has been historically left on the margins of socio-economic gain, is always a pivot in his scheme of things. He has also authored many books relevant to career guidance. Since 1984, he has also made regular contributions to “PratiyogitaNirdeshika”, a leading monthly magazine of Central India for competitive exams, in form of articles.

Dr. Rathi informed the youth more than 10 ways to make careers in this field viz. Placement in industry, entrepreneurship, Printing and Embroidery Unit, Boutique, Clothing Rentals,OnlineClothing Stores, Image Consulting etc.

PreitySarva, Principal, ATDC Indore, expressing her elation on the successful completion of the seminar said, “The events like this seminar gives the students a chance to interact with experienced intellectuals, who help them figure out the new career opportunities in the garment sector. This gives them a platform to step in the right direction to improve upon their skill and enhance their career. The basic aim of this seminar was to provide guidance to the students about various careers options by opting a right course &government schemes which will help potential and promising entrepreneurs in their new businesses and industries.”

Mr. Vicky Kalani, shared his experience of running the industry and the post-training impact of ATDC upon the readymade garment industry.He said, “Skilled workforce is very much required to us and if we ask for 50 employees we get 20 employees. The readymade garment industry of Indore is very reputed now.” Mr.Pukhraj Kothari informed the listeners about the various schemes of Govt. of MP and central Govt. for the entrepreneurship development. In the last the queries of the listeners were addressed by all the speakers.

Speaking on the occasion a delighted participant, Richa Namdev said, “I have learnt a lot in this seminar as it was interesting, easier to grasp and with this learning I will be able to take the right decision for my career.
