ARROW 2017-18 finding new directions on Road Safety

Ludhiana, December 13, 2017: ARROW 2017-18, the innovative road safety QUIZ series organized jointly by Rotary Club and ASHA CHINH continues to create an impact on young students of Ludhiana. The forth awareness program was conducted specially for the National Social Service (NSS) cadets of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana on 12th December. The program for making youth aware about the hazards of irresponsible driving started with presentation by Dr. Rajinder Chawla, Chairman ASHA CHINH, in which he highlighted the shattering effect a road accident can have on the victims and their families. Theme of the presentation was ‘Life – after an accident is never the same’. He emphasised that life is not so cheap to be just thrown and wasted on the roads. More than 350 students attended the program and after the presentation all of them pledged to be more responsible and sensible drivers and follow the traffic rules. The presentation was followed by the quiz on road safety in which questions about safe driving, purpose of the traffic rules was explained with figures and actual examples. Videos of CCTV footage of road accidents were played to make the students realise how small errors can lead to life shattering accidents. The pamphlets on ‘HappyDriving’ and ‘Zero Risk Driving’ conveyed the message that driving is a joy and should be a pleasure if we follow simple rules and abstain from adventurism on roads.
Four teams of students were selected out of 124 participants by written screening test before the Quiz. The competition comprising three rounds including multiple choice, True/False and Visual questions. The audience was kept enthralled and engrossed in the quiz with the help of a series of questions reserved for the audience that carried small prizes. Himani Chhatwal and Parul Sharma from the team ‘Responsible’ were declared winners, while Pratahabidya Nayak and Smriti Kaul from the team ‘Aware’ were the runners up. Trophies and certificates were awarded to the winners by Dr.Param Saini, President Rotary Club Ludhiana Greater. While speaking on the occasion, motivated the youth to participate in such drives and become torch bearers for the mission of road safety. She invited the students to join and carry forward the momentum being generated by ARROW 2017-18 so that we can really give new directions and shape to the traffic on road and make the roads safe for our future generations. Dr.Madhu Sharma, Program Co-ordinator of NSS at PAU organised the program. Rotarians Vikas Babbar, Mrs. Ashu Kapoor and Mrs.Sangeeta Bhandari distributed the gift vouchers to the participants.
