Amity University Haryana organized North Zone Vice Chancellors Meet at its campus on 4th – 5th December, 2017. Prof V S Chauhan, Chairman, UGC will be present as Chief Guest along with Prof Ranbir Singh, VC, National Law University, Padma Shri Prof K L Chopra, Former Director, IIT Kharagpur inaugurated the Meet and will release the Special Issue of the University News, a Weekly Journal brought out by the Association of Indian Universities. The Meet was presided over by Prof. P. B. Sharma, President, Association of Indian Universities and Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana. Prof Furqan Qamar, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities delivered the Introductory Address. Approximately 70 Vice Chancellors of the North Zone comprising the states of Delhi, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and other states attended the Meet.
Significance of the Meet
The theme of the deliberation of the Meet is ‘“Leadership Excellence in Higher Education and Research”.

Education in general and higher education in particular in the Knowledge era needs to be equipped to respond to the changes ushering into the society. The growing demand for education i.e access, coupled with other issues such as equity and excellences necessitates education to adopt different approaches to respond to the issues emerging out of the changes. It must not only cater to the present but also needs to be preparing for future too. Due to technological advancement and other complexities we cannot rely upon the age old methods such as, pedagogy, curriculum, teacher preparation, employability of the products and an array of several other issues which needs innovative solutions. Further, implementing the innovation and incubation are certainly the added challenges before the government, policy makers, academic leaders and institutions. Therefore, the present Meet aims to deliberate on a plethora of issues concerning the ‘Leadership Excellence in Higher Education and Research’. The Meet is expected to deliberate on the issues keeping in view the global trends, national preparedness and regional requirements.
Dr V S Chauhan in his message said, “Imparting quality education to student is the gist of learning outcome process and every educational institute must strive to achieve this. It is imperative on the part of Universities to focus on learner-centric education system to produce open minded graduates with sharp minded skill embedded with a strong value system. Creating an academic environment featuring excellence & uniqueness with extensive focus on research and innovation should be ultimate goal of any higher education institution in the country as sustainable prosperity of any nation lies in continuous innovation”.

Prof (Dr) P B Sharma, President, Association of Indian Universities and Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana talking about the occasion said, “ we need to create the enterprising and creative minds in our universities and thus transform our universities as the “factories of Innovation, Technology Incubation and Enterprise development” along side with producing Industry-ready-professionals for the new knowledge age which is rapidly descending in our industry, trade, business and governance, and in fact in all human endeavors.”
Prof Padmakali Banerjee, Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana in his welcome address started with a quote, “Leaders aspire action action” and then describe III’s of research and innovation driven Amity University Haryana. Innovation, Industry Integration and International Collaboration. She added, “Capacity building is the future course of action by any futuristic.” Describing herself as a hardcore optimist she declared that for creating new knowledge research is most important.”

One of the annual features of the AIU is to organize the Zonal and National Vice Chancellors’ Meets. These Meetings provide an important platform not only for discussing the significant issues of higher education and the problems faced by the universities, but also play a catalytic role in carrying the voice of the leaders of higher education to appropriate authorities. In addition to general issues, some significant themes of topical importance are also discussed in these Meets.
Association of Indian Universities (AIU), anticipates a fruitful and meaningful interaction towards resolution and realization of a common agenda for academic excellence by way of incubating and implementing innovations in education system.
